The Global Merchant Pricing (GMP) team is responsible for the single largest source of  American Express’ revenue, merchant discount revenue.  The team leverages merchant pricing to grow coverage, increase merchant satisfaction and drive GMS revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.  This Analyst position sits in the Merchant Pricing Americas team within GMP and is responsible for driving data analyses for key projects across Merchant Services Americas (MSA).  Data analyses will require expertise in database tools, such as SQL and SAS.   Job Responsibilities:   Provide insightful pricing analytics:
  • Evaluate optimal set of data sources and synthesize information from both internal and external data sets
  • Develop the insights that will help prioritize projects and influence pricing strategies
  • Build and strengthen relationships with key internal business partners
  • Translate market insights into clear implications for MSA merchants and partners
  • Socialize results across MSA as well as partners across American Express to gain buy-in for key initiatives
Qualifications
 Required Skills:        
  • Proficiency in SAS and other database tools
  • SQL querying experience
  • Background in consulting, data analysis, statistics or related field preferred
  • Expertise in quantitative data analysis methods and data mining
  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 2 years of work experience preferred
  • Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast paced environment
  • Strong work ethic with an intense will-to-win and demonstrated personal excellence 
  • Ability to handle high pressure environment with aggressive deadlines
  Analytical Thinking: 
  • Strong aptitude for analytics. Demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-add insights from large amounts of financial data
  • Expert-level proficiency with Excel (VBA a plus) and creating models that accommodate review of multiple scenarios or possible outcomes
  Builds Relationships:
  • Strong relationship building skills; ability to influence others in cross-functional environments
  • Strong team orientation with ability to collaborate with peers and senior management
  Communicates Effectively:
  • Excellent written (PowerPoint and email) and verbal communication skills
  • Superior ability to communicate with, make recommendations to, and influence at all levels of the organization
  Change Leadership:
  • Continuously seek process improvement and play a lead role in driving change in the organization each and every day with energy, enthusiasm and an entrepreneurial mindset
  • Comfort with ambiguity and making decisions with incomplete information at times, taking measured risks
