About the role

This Fellowship will aim for the selected applicant to become proficient in all aspects of the management of multi-trauma and emergency general surgical patients. The chief role of the Trauma Fellow is to facilitate the day-to-day management of the seriously ill trauma patient from resuscitation to rehabilitation. The functions, which accompany this role, include clinical activities, quality management, education, research and defined administrative tasks.

The Trauma / ASU Fellow must have a genuine interest in maintaining the highest standards in trauma and acute care; demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communicate skills, have the ability to work as a team member as well as to take leadership and supervisory roles in all facets of trauma and emergency general surgical management.

Requirements of the role

  • It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), pertussis (whooping cough) and hepatitis B.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Certified copies of relevant qualification and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • MBBS or equivalent qualification registrable with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons or equivalent overseas qualification enabling recognition as a General / Trauma Surgeon.
  • Post fellowship experience in General Surgery preferable.
  • ATLS/EMST and DSTC trained, preferable ATLS/EMST instructor status
