About the Role

To provide operational management and professional leadership for the Radiation Oncology unit within the Division of Cancer Services ensuring a cost effective service focused on high-quality patient outcomes and nursing excellence.

  • Staffing and budget responsibilities:
  • Provides comprehensive Human Resource management of nursing staff.  Responsible for recruitment, performance appraisal and the development of subordinate staff; applies the Business Planning Framework principles for effective staffing and rostering inclusive of demand fluctuations and enables consistent high quality patient care.
  • Coordinate strategic direction for quality improvement; aligning Unit activity and evidence based nursing practice with EQuIP and Magnet quality frameworks, in addition to the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Responsible for ensuring the provision of safe, quality care. Benchmarking to gain perspective with like facilities with the goal of achieving excellence in nursing practice and improved service delivery.
  • Professionally and operationally responsible for all nursing staff working in radiation oncology. This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Nursing in Division of Cancer Services.
  • Cost centre management for Radiation Oncology. Financial delegation, recurrent $ 5000 and non-recurrent $2500. Budget responsibilities for Radiation Oncology: including contributing to the development of the budget, monitoring adherence to the budget, analysing budgets to ensure the optimisation of resources, decision making within delegation, and reporting and recommending solutions to the Assistant Director of Nursing.
