Function Background:

In view of heightened expectations from regulators and to ensure a strong and consistent global control environment, the Markets & Securities Services business is enhancing the Business Controls and Supervision (BCS) function. The goal of the Business Controls & Supervision function is to help establish and maintain a robust control environment and culture within the Citi Markets businesses worldwide. The role will work with various teams to monitor the conduct control framework within Markets and the firm. The position will be located in Buffalo, NY.

Key Responsibilities:

Business Controls & Supervision is looking for a highly energized, dynamic professional who is ready to join a fast-paced, world leader in the financial services industry. The successful candidate will work with Global Markets Business Management, Chief Administrative Officers, Markets Middle Office, Compliance, Internal Audit, Financial Control and Technology Departments. This role supports the identification, design, implementation, operationalization, analysis and reporting of key conduct specific controls across Markets products.

The following are some of the specific activities expected of this role:

  • On a pre-defined cadence, work with various stakeholders (CAOs, Business Unit Managers, Compliance, Risk, Finance, ORM) to refresh deliverables tied to the conduct control framework; results are presented at the Institutional Clients Group and Markets and Securities Services governance forums;
  • Manage various regulatory related projects to design new controls, enhance existing ones, close Corrective Action Plans and prepare submission evidence for Internal Audit validation;
  • Assist management in challenge sessions from 2nd and 3rd line of defense functions – Compliance, Quality Assurance, Surveillance, Internal Audit;
  • Contribute to the creation and enhancement of automated controls;
  • Execute ad-hoc requests for various trading / sales desks



  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Business Administration, Economics, Finance or Accounting
  • Understanding of Credit, Market, Conduct and Operational Risk Management concepts
  • 5 or more years of relevant work experience in control function, operations, or a related field
  • 3 or more years of demonstrated experience in a project management role preferably within capital markets operations
  • Articulate and effective communicator, both orally and in writing, with a proactive approach
  • Willingness to ask questions and challenge existing processes for operational efficiencies
  • Team-oriented, client-focused and open to different ideas/viewpoints
  • Ability to develop remote relationships across functions
  • Ability to analyze a process and recommend ways to improve quality, controls, and efficiency
  • Advanced knowledge in MS suite, specifically Access, Excel and PowerPoint
