Responsibilities/Duties:

The Section of Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics, Alberta Children’s Hospital and the University of Calgary invite applications for a full-time position as a Pediatric Electrophysiologist. The rank of this position is at the level of Clinical Assistant Professor or Clinical Associate Professor, based on qualifications and academic achievements. The position is for 70% - 80% clinical activity with 20%- 30% allocation for education and/or research.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all aspects of pediatric electrophysiology, including ablation, patient management in a pediatric CIED clinic, a cardio-genetics clinic and pediatric arrhythmia clinics. Opportunities to manage adult congenital electrophysiology in a CIED and outpatient clinic as well as complex ablation are available. There are two state-of-the-art electrophysiology labs with CARTO and Velocity mapping systems. General pediatric cardiology inpatient and outpatient duties are required. There are several research opportunities with strong collaborative ties between the pediatric cardiology, adult electrophysiology and genetics groups.

The section of Pediatric Cardiology has 9 cardiologists with subspecialty representation in imaging, fetal cardiology, heart function, transplant and pulmonary hypertension. There is one pediatric / adult congenital electrophysiologist in the group; she is an active member of the adult electrophysiology group as well. This alliance facilitates clinical, education and research endeavors.

Alberta Children’s Hospital and the Southern Alberta Adult Congenital Program service the City of Calgary and the residents of Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia and Southwestern Saskatchewan: a catchment of area of ~ 3 million people. Alberta Children’s Hospital is a free-standing Children’s Hospital which opened in 2006 with state-of-the-art technology for family-centered care, research and education. Calgary is vibrant city of over 1.2 million people. It offers a superb quality of life. Calgary is situated near the Rocky Mountains (Banff National Park), and is rapidly emerging as a cosmopolitan, diverse and cultural center with outstanding green spaces, schools and communities.

Qualifications:

Candidates must have the following qualifications: MD, Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology. A minimum of one year additional training in Pediatric Electrophysiology with an accredited program. Recent work experience and/or training in Pediatric Electrophysiology at an academic center within the last 2-3 years is essential. If the candidate is interested in the practice of adult congenital electrophysiology, additional training in this area is required.

The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.

Must read, write and speak English.

Compensation:

$420,000 - $485,000 per annum. Funding source: Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP). Remuneration for this position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Specialist On Call: $2,500 to $4,500 per month on average depending on call frequency.

The Practitioner is responsible for purchasing health and insurance benefits.

The AMA, through the Continuing Medical Education (CME) program, reimburses eligible physicians for costs incurred with regard to the maintenance and enhancement of knowledge, skills and competency.

The annual allotment of $2656 carries forward for three years but expires on March 31 of the fourth year if not used.
