About the Role:

An exciting opportunity has become available to be the focal person in the Qatar Airways Group to look after the upcoming implementation of Tax in Qatar.  Th particular position will be responsible for managing compliance under Direct Taxes, Indirect Taxes, Corporate Laws and Transfer Pricing regulations for Qatar Airways Subsidiary entities, including international tax planning and compliance in cost effective and timely manner.


Key responsibilities of the role:


  • Oversee tax & corporate compliance across the Qatar Airways Subsidiaries and joint ventures as well as in Hamad International Airport and Amiri Flight
  • Responsible for tax compliance in Qatar and any other overseas geographies in which Subsidiaries operate e.g United Kingdom, Switzerland, Australia: VAT implementation and Excise tax implementation across multiple ERP systems.
  • Responsible to legally minimize tax liabilities through informed application of tax laws and regulations
  • Identifying and advising management on tax opportunities/positions
  • Establish appropriate processes and system to ensure efficient and effective management of tax & corporate compliance related risks.
  • Provide internal advisory services and support on tax & corporate compliance matters within the Group.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to decide the appropriate legal setup of offices at new destinations.
  • Undertake tax & corporate compliance review initiatives.
  • Researching and advising on tax laws, corporate laws and other allied laws.
  • Maintain up to date tax and compliance ready reckoner.
  • Responsible for tax & compliance reporting to the management on periodic basis.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of company information and ensure minimum disclosure while meeting the legal requirements.
  • Providing inputs concerning QR Subsidiary entities to the Qatar Ministry of Finance for Tax related bilateral negotiations between State of Qatar and other countries
  • Provide financial information in survey forms to governments and other agencies
  • Liaise with Qatar Airways Tax and Contract departments to set up the tax strategy for the QR Subsidiary entities
  • Liaise with contract department/ consultants and auditors in finalizing tax clause (to determine QR Subsidiary entities tax liabilities) during negotiating contracts with customers/suppliers
  • Influence all stakeholders to meet compliance requirements across the QR Subsidiary entities

Management & Leadership

  • Establish the department or teams objectives and priorities to align with and support business objectives.
  • Regularly evaluate the department or teams objectives, plans, procedures and practices, and makes appropriate changes if needed.
  • Oversee and supervise employees. Direct daily activities, recruit, train, develop and discipline to ensure a high standard of service delivery.


  • Take responsibility for own ongoing personal development and growth of expertise.
  • Train and develop other employees, for proper succession planning and risk management.
  • Assist in the response to any emergency or a major operational disruption affecting Qatar Airways or its subsidiaries, including support of the Qatar Airways Special Assistance Program.
  • Train Qatari staff in the duties above.
  • Perform other department duties related to his/her position as directed by the Head of the Department.

Operational Safety

  • Responsible to ensure that employees at all levels understand work health and safety requirements and expectations through provision of relevant QR Group induction, information, instruction, training and supervision.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, security, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the operation to assure employee safety, security, legislative compliance and delivery of high quality service with a responsible environmental attitude.
  • Ensure that all managers and supervisors understand work health and safety requirements and expectations to the extent that they can pass on relevant information, identify training needs and provide appropriate supervision in their workplace.
  • Take a direct and personal interest in reported injuries, incidents, near misses and hazards to ensure that appropriate reporting, investigation and response is being achieved.





  • Relevant College or University qualification to min Bachelor's level.
  • CA/ACCA or equivalent qualified.


  • Professional Qualification related to Taxes.

Previous Experience:


  • Minimum 7 years of job-related experience required in the Tax field

    • Working for more than 10 years in a large scale organisation or multinational organisation handling Direct, Indirect Tax compliance and Corporate law compliance.


    • Working in Tax Department from airline industry

    Job Specific Skills:


    • Sound understanding of tax principles governing compliance of Direct Taxes and Indirect Tax laws
    • Able to correctly interpret the provisions of tax laws to comply with the provision of law.
    • Understanding of provisions relating to computation of taxable income, assessment and appeal procedures.
    • Should have attended and executed Income Tax assessments/Sales Tax/Service Tax assessment until conclusions.
    • Understanding of DTAA’s is a must to ensure effective utilisation of tax relief’s granted as per DTAA’s.
    • Knowledge of Transfer Pricing regulation shall be added advantage.
    • Managerial skills - Ability to delegate work, set clear direction and manage workflow. Strong mentoring and coaching skills. Ability to train and develop subordinate's skills. Ability to foster teamwork among team members.


    • Candidates possessing the above requisites from airline industry would be beneficial.
