Role Title:Lead Consultant Specialist

Business: Global Banking & Markets IT


Role Purpose / Description

  • The selected candidate plays an Innovation development role in the Digital & Data department of HSBC Securities Service and proactively works with business executives and various stakeholders across our key business lines (Funds, Custody, Treasuries, Corporate Trust and Loan Agency) to provide solutions based on new approaches to technology, or new Technology itself.
  • The selected candidates will support Innovation across HSBC Securities Service and into Global Banking & Markets  by facilitating and fostering an Innovation culture.  Leading by example where practical and taking a hands-on approach to the journey from idea to inception.  The focus may be on PoC and prototype.



Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications


• Solve technical problems in a pragmatic and logical way

• Apply specialist expertise in the development of IT systems

• Be an inspiring and lead by example with a collaborative attitude within a demanding, maturing Agile environment

• Familiar with a couple of different languages, and well-versed in at least one (e.g. Java (inc. JS), C (inc. C++, C#), Python, SQL.

• Keen to collaborate with others, and you’ll give thought about how software fits into the bigger picture

• Translating Problem Statements into robust, scalable and reusable solutions that deliver exceptional user experience driven by the product teams

• Continuously Challenge the normal approach.

• Show a keen interest in understanding what services the HSS business provides and how they can be better provided using technology; ability to actualise real business world applications of ground breaking technology

• Show awareness of current FinTechs and relevant potential partners for HSS to innovate with

• Global vision and mobility.  Be able to address both East, West and global viewpoint.

• Open mind to using different technologies support the business pain point.  The answer may not be new technologies, but better us of existing tech.

• Ability to provide strategic direction in the pursuit of new technologies, whilst having ability to prove these new technologies through POC’s and work closely with development teams to implement MVP’s.

• An important element is for the candidate to be an agile practitioner with a proven ability in the use of agile practices and principles to successfully deliver change.  They should be comfortable conveying agile principles to less experienced colleagues, leading by example, and building a strong agile culture.

• Drive respective software roadmap according to Digital & Data business growth agenda.

• Ensure due diligence and appropriate processes are followed when Innovating. 

• Work with other IT departments to define and plan the introduction of new systems or changes to existing systems; facilitate the handover from PoC / Prototype to BAU Delivery team.

• Develop employee’s knowledge and skills in specific areas of expertise, providing coaching and sponsoring training solutions where necessary.

• Stay abreast of technology trends and advise IT and the business about potential benefits/impacts.

• Drive innovation, technology decisions, and solution design that align with Group strategies, business requirements, and new emerging technologies.

• An aptitude for problem solving, without having to rely on a structured/ methodical approach

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to relate concepts to non-technical colleagues.

• Willing to receive feedback on their work to help them progress and grow.

• Show a keenness to be the first to try new technologies, and be able to quickly produce proof of concept

• Excellent motivational skills with the ability to adapt to change.

• Strong technical development skills

• Be an approachable and supportive team member with a collaborative attitude within a demanding, maturing Agile environment

• A track record of constantly looking for ways to do things better and an excellent understanding of the mechanism necessary to successfully implement change

•  A flexible and adaptable management style with experience of developing yourself and others

• Excellent written and spoken communication skills; an ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences

•  Built effective networks across business areas, developing relationships based on mutual trust and encouraging others to do the same 

• Be a self-starter, not reliant on a manager to define specifics of workload.
