Branch Monitoring and Controls Manager


 Retail Banking and Wealth Management (RBWM) serves more than 50 million customers worldwide with a complete range of banking and wealth management services to enable them to manage their finances and protect and build their financial futures. The job holder will work within the Business Performance Management team and be accountable mainly for carrying out surprise branch visits across HSBC Australia branch network and provide reports to Branch Network Regional Managers. The main purpose for the surprise branch visits are to ensure the consistency and controls are in place across the whole branch network. The job holder will work proactively with other Branch Network Control Managers to review current procedures, improve efficiency and minimize gaps that are identified during branch visits.


Please note, this role will involve frequent travel between HSBC’s 38 Australian branches.



The key responsibilities of the role are:


Monitor and establish testing procedures through Branch Surprise Visit to ensure the continual effectiveness of the Branch Target Operating Model and Branch Operating Rhythm.

Prepare Branch visit reports and collaborate with Regional Managers to identify any process or service improvement initiatives to ensure sales and service procedures are improved and to minimize future issues

Work with Regional Managers to continually reassess the operational risk within the Branch Network, taking into account the changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructuring, and the impact of new technology.

Prepare/Deliver the Quarterly Branch Risk Profile Report and collaborate with Regional Managers to identify any process or service improvements.

Actively build and maintain strong relationships with all internal functions within RBWM.

Act as a stakeholder or in an advisory capacity on projects that are specific to support the Branch Network.

Meet regularly with Regional managers of the Branch Network and Branch Network staff to communicate new procedures, review Branch visit results, address defalcations and share best practices.

Work with the Business Performance Management Design and Deliver sub function to identify and address all Branch Network related Technical Training requirements. 





To be successful in this role, you will need:

Retail Branch Banking experience

A solid understanding of compliance issues within a retail banking environment

Familiarity with relevant Financial Services regulatory bodies

Monitoring and testing experience preferred

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent professional qualification preferred

Excellent interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis upon inspiring, influencing and negotiating.

Planning and organising skills.

Analytical skills.
