An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Lincoln County Hospital for a Deputy Laboratory Manager in Blood Sciences. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual that is suitably qualified and experienced to join our busy, friendly team working in our progressive laboratories in the post of Blood Sciences Deputy Laboratory Manager. The successful candidate will be a strong, visible leader, who demonstrates behaviours consistent with these values, thereby contributing to a positive working environment and open culture, which fosters high morale and commitment among all staff.
You will take responsibility and assist the Laboratory Manager in the day-to-day management of the Blood Sciences Laboratory, as well as liaising with the Blood Sciences teams across all Path Links sites. The applicant will be an innovative thinker, who is willing to challenge traditional boundaries and be able to implement service change projects to enable us to deliver our strategy. Duties will include direction of day-to-day operations; maintaining our UKAS accreditation; compliance with policies, along with overseeing the CPD and training programmes for the department; and involvement in the resolution of human resource issues. The successful applicant will also become the departmental quality lead, overseeing document control and liaising with the Path Links Quality Management Team. Whilst based primarily at Lincoln County Hospital, the successful applicant will be expected to attend other Path Links sites for meetings, training and if the service requires it.
As a HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist, you should be educated to FIBMS/MSc level in Biomedical Sciences or hold the IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma in a Blood Sciences discipline, with at least 2 years’ experience at Band 6 level. A management qualification would be desirable, or you should be willing to undertake further training in order to obtain this. You should possess excellent interpersonal, leadership and communication skills and additionally have experience of problem solving.
The philosophy of the laboratory is to promote best practice and provide a quality service. Path Links is a UKAS accredited pathology service where professional development is actively encouraged. Path Links has undertaken significant service development utilising the Lean Management System. The successful applicant will be expected to become proficient in the principles of Lean Management and will assist in continuous improvement within the department. A working knowledge of ISO 15189:2012 is also expected.
