Critical Care at York and Scarborough are seeking to recruit highly motivated registered nurses to join our friendly multi-disciplinary teams.

York is a purpose built Critical Care with 17 bed-spaces department caring for adult medical and surgical patients. Scarborough Critical Care Unit has 8 bed-spaces. Both care for a mixture of Level 2 and Level 3 patients. 

York and Scarborough teams are committed to the National Critical Care Core Standards. We work collaboratively, sharing and developing clinical guidelines and practice, and are active in Critical Care research and audit. 

Registered nurses can choose to work in either York or Scarborough. There may be opportunities to work across units. Please state on your application form which site you would prefer to work at.

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Critical Care has a strong commitment to education and new members of staff receive an education package tailored to their level of experience. Staff inexperienced in Critical Care will receive a structured Foundation Programme over their first 12 months comprising of study days, clinical shifts with the Clinical Educator, allocated mentors and supernumerary time. Simulation features heavily in our education programme, with plenty of opportunity to further develop Critical Care and life support skills. Ongoing study for mentorship and attainment of post-graduate Critical Care qualifications is supported and encouraged.

We also offer a number of other benefits for our Band 5 Staff Nurses which include the following

  • Nurses who have completed their qualification and are awaiting NMC registration will be paid at AfC Band 4 (previously Band 2)
  •  A £750 relocation fee where a nurse is moving 20 miles from an address that was 50 miles from your new work base;
  • £250 payment* to any staff member for referrals which lead to appointment (paid after the new starter completes 3-months in post)
