SPECIALIST PHARMACIST - Cancer services – Band 7 + EDC (subject to AFC banding)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a pharmacist to join the team based at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is situated on the west coast of Lancashire and operates within a regional health economy catchment area that spans Lancashire and South Cumbria, supporting a population of 1.6 million people.
Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a JACIE accredited Tertiary Care Centre for Haematology offering an extensive range of treatments to patients from across Lancashire and South Cumbria including induction chemotherapy for acute leukaemias and peripheral blood stem cell autografts in myeloma and lymphoma. Our busy oncology service offers treatment to patients with a wide range of solid tumour cancers. The entire service spans a 21 bedded inpatient Haematology Ward, a newly opened Oncology ward, Oncology and Haematology Day Units and a busy outpatient clinic. The Pharmacy team play an integral role in the care provided both from a clinical and technical perspective. The pharmacy team is highly respected and forms a vital part of the wider multi-disciplinary team.
Combining both clinical and technical skills this role will be a 50:50 split between the Clinical Pharmacy Service to the Haematology and Oncology Departments and the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. You will play a vital part in the further development of both aspects of the service as we strive to meet the ever increasing demand.
You will utilise your excellent clinical skills to contribute to the pharmaceutical care of oncology and haematology patients across the Trust. You will also support the ongoing delivery of the clinical and operational aspects of the chemotherapy electronic prescribing system.
You will work closely with the Aseptic and Technical Services Manager to provide supervision and management of the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. You will act as the Supervising Pharmacist within the Aseptic Unit, carrying out the final check and release of a range of aseptically prepared items. You will also play a critical role in maintaining the Aseptic Unit Quality Management System.
The Haematology Department is recognised as being amongst one of the top recruiters for many national clinical trials and you will work alongside our Clinical Trials Pharmacist to help deliver these.
The department has a strong commitment to advancing pharmacy practice and embedding effective medicines management systems into patient care and is now looking to appoint a dynamic individual with good organisational and communication skills who is keen to be involved in the further development of the cancer services.
The successful candidate will play an influential role in the patients care pathway whilst building upon proven technical and clinical skills. The combination of responsibilities within the role will significantly facilitate your growth as a Pharmacy practitioner. You will work closely with the medical and nursing staff to promote clinical and cost-effective prescribing through evidence based guidelines. The post holder will develop, audit and monitor Medicines Management processes within the service and will provide training and supervision to departmental staff.
In addition to well-developed leadership skills you will have previous experience of working within a clinical haematology/oncology environment, have experience working within an Aseptic Unit and will have completed a post-graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy. Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork would be advantageous. Training and support will be given. A commitment to continuing professional development is essential.
