The Department of Critical Care Medicine is currently recruiting Clinical Associates for the Intensive Care Units at all adult sites within the Calgary Zone.
We require clinical associates to provide service from 1700 to 0800 hours, seven days a week in the 4 multisystem ICUs of the Zone and day shifts (0800-1700) in two of these ICU’s. Physicians will be integrated into the current physician healthcare team, including bedside physicians, residents and attending intensivists.
As part of a specialized team, the Contractor will provide medical care to a subset of patients in the ICU and “tier one response” for all ICU Outreach Team calls within the institution. Tier one response includes immediate attendance upon patients for the purpose of assessment and therapeutic intervention to address any conditions that may be immediately life threatening, and being immediately available on site in the ICU to provide care at the bedside under the supervision of an attending intensivist. These teams were created as a patient safety initiative to advance the “ICU without walls” concept. Activation of the team can occur by any concerned staff member on any unit of an acute care facility. Working with ward staff and the attending medical staff, the ICU Outreach Team is expected to assess and stabilize the patient, assist with communication including clarifying and confirming patient specific Goals of Care, educate and support staff who have activated the team and assist with transferring the patient to the ICU when necessary (20 – 25% cases).
Physicians must be eligible for an Independent Practice Permit from College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, Calgary Zone Medical Staff Privileges, appropriate Canadian Medical Protective Association coverage, and ACLS certification.
The candidate must be eligible for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.
Must read, write and speak English.
All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and Permanent Residents will be given priority.
