The Department of Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry at the University of Alberta and Alberta Health Services (AHS) are inviting applications for a Fee For Service position in Electrophysiology in the Division of Cardiology, at the University of Alberta

The University of Alberta's Division of Cardiology is an integral part of the Department of Medicine and the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, a state of the art facility that provides secondary and tertiary cardiac care services for the City of Edmonton, Northern Alberta, and parts of British Columbia, Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories and portions of Saskatchewan. It has the largest heart transplant program in Canada and is the only heart institute in the country providing care for both pediatric and adult patients.

Three state of the art EP labs opened recently making the Institute one of the best-equipped facilities in North America. Other defining features include a large imaging research center (ABACUS) which is available for clinical and basic science research.

In addition the successful candidate would join a group of 36 cardiologists including six adult and three Pediatric Electrophysiologists.


Candidates must be appropriately trained in a recognized electrophysiology program and be proficient in all aspects of device implantation, resynchronization, device management, complex and non-complex intervention ablation procedures. Innovation and a focus on research are desired attributes for the successful candidate.

Clinical duties will include equitable EPS lab time for device implantation and EPS procedures, shared electrophysiology consultation service and night call amongst seven electrophysiologists, device and electrophysiology clinics, limited general cardiology in-patient service and general cardiology triage service.

The successful candidate will be appointed to the Department of Medicine with a Clinical Academic appointment commensurate with experience.

Candidates must have an MD or equivalent, be eligible for certification in General Internal Medicine and a subspecialty in Cardiology with the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta.


Remuneration will be on a Fee For Service basis with potential gross income being in the 600-700 K range.
