The Division of Neurosurgery, Department of Surgery, Alberta Health Services is accepting applications for the position of a General Neurosurgeon (Locum position) to start November 1, 2019.
The Neurosurgery Program in the Edmonton Zone is committed to the continuation of high level patient care at the Royal Alexandra, University of Alberta Hospital, and Stollery Children’s Hospital sites. The Section is looking for a qualified neurosurgeon to advance this effort both in general neurosurgery at the Royal Alexandra site, and pediatric neurosurgery at the Stollery site.
The position will last until July 1, 2020. This is potentially renewable, based on continuation of funding and successful performance review.
The successful candidate’s responsibilities would be to provide daytime neurosurgery call at the Royal Alexandra site as well as urgent surgical management of neurosurgical patients. There is a requirement for elective spine triage in conjunction with the Royal Alexandra Spine assessment clinic and in addition, the candidate will be required to provide night time call at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, at a rate of 1:4.
Teaching medical students and interacting with fellows and residents is also a requirement. Research endeavors are optional, but there are potential opportunities for interested candidates.
Applicants must hold an MD or equivalent, with completed training in Neurosurgery, and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of Alberta. The successful candidate must have obtained the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada Fellowship in Neurosurgery. The candidate must be competent in general neurosurgery, and also able to safely take pediatric neurosurgery call.
