Responsibilities/Duties:

Alberta Health Services, South Zone is currently seeking a full time Geriatrician or Care of the Elderly beginning January 2020.

The successful candidate for this position will:

  • maintain a full scope of practice including inpatient consultative care;
  • provide rural Outreach;
  • reside in and have as his/her and family primary residence; Lethbridge or surrounding South Zone West community;
  • establish and maintain a full time Specialist Geriatrician practice in the community of Lethbridge; A full time practice is defined as providing clinical activities at least five (5) day per week, a minimum of forty (40) hours per week;
  • obtain and maintain an AHS Medical Staff Appointment and appropriate privileges to provide the Services;
  • participation / provision of Geriatric on-call with a call expectation of 1:4;
  • participate in quality programs and initiatives undertaken within Zone Clinical Department Seniors Health in AHS, including (without limitation) achievement of certain performance indicators as determined by AHS, exercising its discretion reasonably;

The Chinook Regional Hospital (CRH) is the largest community hospital located in Southern Alberta providing services to Lethbridge and surrounding rural areas with a catchment population of ~150,000. CRH has 250 acute care beds, 45 geriatric beds, 10 ICU beds and 15 NICU bassinets. CRH is an accredited Level 3 Trauma Centre providing coverage in Pediatrics, Geriatrics, General Surgery, Medicine Obstetrics & Gynecology, ENT, Urology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery and Cancer services.

Lethbridge is a vibrant city of just over 100,000 located in beautiful southern Alberta - close to the mountains (about 70 miles from Waterton National Park and the Rockies) and an easy drive to Calgary.

Qualifications:

Required

  • Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or be eligible for Certification with Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada OR must have Care of the Elderly Fellowship from the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CCFP)
  • Must have or be eligible for independent practitioner registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta

Compensation:

Compensation for this position is Specialized Geriatric Services Funding Module.
