The award winning Medicine for Older People Therapy Team are looking to recruit a specialist physiotherapist. If you have a passion for elderly care, we want to hear from you!


The MOP Therapy Team offers specialist services to patients over the age of 80 across 150 beds and prides itself in delivering patient centred, holistic care as part of a dynamic, large and supportive MDT. We support elderly patients from Southampton City as well as a large part of Hampshire. We aim to promote the independence and quality of life of our patients in the later years of their life.

All staff are expected to work Monday to Friday with the expectation to work flexibly to support a 7 day service.

Our team offers the opportunity to work on the Enhanced Dementia Care Unit – a unique, specialist ward in our region. We are proud to support the Eat Drink Dress Move initiative at UHS and have won several awards including, ‘Most Inspiring Team’ at the endpjparalysis awards and the ‘Care of the Older Person’ BMJ Award. The entire MDT is always striving to be at the forefront of innovation and development. Excellent support will be given towards the continual learning and personal and professional development.


Day to day the successful post holder will be responsible for;

  • Assessing and treating patients with complex needs and various clinical presentations
  • Leading on complex discharge planning with support from Band 7’s and the MDT
  • Supporting the learning and development of Band 2-5 staff and students from the University of Southampton, University of Bournemouth and the University of Winchester
  • To take an active part in the respiratory twilight and on-call rota


The successful candidate should have a broad range of relevant elderly care experience and a passion for this clinical area, and be respiratory competent. Experience in assessing and treating patients with a range of conditions including falls, Parkinson’s Disease, respiratory conditions, Stroke and Dementia is essential. The ability to treat your patients with the utmost care, compassion and dignity is imperative, as well as excellent prioritisation and time management skills.

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes.  This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible.   UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
