Some exciting opportunities have arisen to become Team Leaders within the Patient Services Centre (PSC) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). The role will require you to manage a PSC team and will be key in ensuring that strong links are made with our department and the Care Group. We are looking for dynamic, enthusiastic, innovative and self-motivated individuals who will deliver a first class service to all of our patients.


The PSC staff are hardworking, committed to patient care and often the first point of contact for the patients, they are responsible for:

- Making and receiving around 20,000 calls per month from patients. 

- Booking over 650,000 outpatient appointments each year, covering 50 specialties across the Trust

- Managing clinics, rescheduling appointments, cancelling appointments and filling new clinics

- Covering reception desks across all of our sites, checking patients in, booking follow up appointments and dealing with queries.

- Preparing patient packs for outpatient clinics


As Team Leader you will work closely with the PSC Management team and the Care Group to maintain good working relationships.

- You will head up a booking / prep team consisting of a Deputy Team Leader, eReferral lead, Outpatient Coordinator and PSC administrators.

- You will provide excellent customer service to patients, relatives; carers and internal/external stakeholders ensuring high standards are upheld across the centre.

- You will work in a centralised Patient Services Centre to ensure a consistent and effective administration service is maintained at all times.


You will be a well organised individual with excellent communication skills and someone who can work flexibly to accommodate the needs of the service. You will need to demonstrate the ability to prioritise and work to deadlines in a fast paced environment.

We’re also looking for you to demonstrate:

- Proven administrative and organisational experience.

- A friendly and approachable manner with the ability to be polite, sympathetic, patient and diplomatic.

- An interest in managing, supporting and developing staff.

- Experience of dealing with non-routine and complex problems.

Getting to Work

Application can be made for parking on site at UHS or through one of the park and ride schemes.  This will be based on specific criteria to determine eligibility for site parking as this can be very limited.  UHS encourages staff to utilise other green methods of getting to work such as cycling or walking where possible.   UHS is well connected through bus services to the city centre and other areas.
