Consultant in Haematology

Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - More jobs by this advertiser

Blackpool is situated on the Fylde Coast which has stunning beaches and many quaint towns and villages while Preston, a city known for its Guild Hall and University (UCLAN), sits on the north bank of the river Ribble with the Forest of Bowland to the North East. There are highly desirable areas to live on the Fylde Coast and in the Ribble valley with property prices lower than in the Manchester area and we offer a generous relocation package tailored to individual circumstances. There are leading schools across the patch with excellent transport links into the Lake District, Manchester and Liverpool.

We are looking for 2 Consultants to complete our plan for a team of 10 Consultants supported by 3 specialist registrars from the regional rotation, 4 specialty doctors, 5 advanced nurse practitioners and 6 clinical nurse specialists as we continue to recruit additional staff to fully realise the vision of the Lancashire Haematology Centre. The service works across Blackpool and Preston and provides a tertiary service to Lancashire and South Cumbria. Intensive treatment of acute leukaemia and autologous stem cell transplantation is undertaken in Blackpool in our JACIE accredited unit for a wider population of 1.6 million people.

We fully understand the vital importance of well-being at work and support job planning aimed at maximising the quality of Consultant work-life balance. We are passionate about giving our patients the best possible service and would encourage any innovation any new member of staff can bring.

Involvement in research is vitally important to us and fully supported by great facilities at both sites which are very much appreciated by our patients (link to Mac’s patient video). We are high recruiters to many national trials. Teaching is also our passion and involvement in teaching our specialist registrars and junior doctors as well as medical students via our growing links with the new UCLAN Medical School is very much encouraged. Sub-specialisation is also encouraged and flexible depending on appointee area of interest.

All weekends on call and 4 out of 5 weekday nights each week are covered by specialist registrars or specialty doctors. We plan to move to a 1 in 8 rota on appointment.

The successful applicants can expect:

  • 10 PA contract with 2 further PAs available.
  • A flexible job plan and base location.

Support to develop own sub-specialty interest
