An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, highly motivated pharmacist to join the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit team. The Pharmacy Aseptic Unit is responsible for the preparation of aseptically prepared medicines for patients across the Trust. This includes provision of chemotherapy for patients from across the Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Network suffering from solid tumours, acute leukaemia and other haematological malignancies and also patients requiring peripheral blood stem cell autografts. Other aseptically prepared items include a small range of antibiotics, ophthalmic injections and parenteral nutrition for both adults and neonates.
As the Specialist Pharmacist – Aseptic Services you will work closely with the Aseptic and Technical Services Manager in the supervision and management of the Pharmacy Aseptic Unit. Your duties will include acting as the Supervising Pharmacist within the Aseptic Unit, carrying out the final check and release of a range of chemotherapy and other aseptically prepared items. You will play a vital role in maintaining the Aseptic Unit quality system with duties including preparation and approval of controlled documentation, training of various grades of staff, participation in EL(97)52 audits and management of environmental monitoring systems.
You will be the pharmacy representative to the Nutrition Support Team, attending weekly multidisciplinary ward rounds and regular Nutrition Steering Groups providing advice on pharmaceutical issues relating to total parenteral nutrition and other forms of nutrition support. Providing a clinical pharmacy service to your nominated ward will further enable you to maintain your clinical skills.
Experience in aseptic services and nutrition is desirable but further training will be provided as necessary. In addition to well-developed communication skills you will have previous experience of working within a hospital pharmacy environment. Evidence of multi-disciplinary teamwork would be advantageous.
Training and support will be given. A commitment to continuing professional development is essential.
